Product Detailed Description

The Eaton MTL-5514 is a single-channel intrinsically safe isolator from the MTL5500 series, designed to interface switches or proximity detectors installed in hazardous areas with control equipment located in a safe area. It uses a relay output to control external equipment and supports line fault detection to help identify open-circuit and short-circuit conditions in field wiring.

The module operates from a 20–35 V DC supply and provides a 7–9 V DC sensor supply through a 1 kΩ source resistor. Its phase-reversal function and selectable line fault detection support different monitoring arrangements. LED indicators show power, channel status, and detected line faults. The compact module mounts on a 35 mm DIN rail and is intended for industrial process-control and instrumentation systems.

Eaton’s obsolete-product cross-reference identifies MTL5514 as a nearest equivalent for the older MTL5014. However, Eaton notes that the MTL5514 does not provide the older model’s 1-input, 2-output function. The MTL5514D may be considered where a second relay output for line fault detection is required, but the complete circuit and alarm behavior must be checked before substitution.
